I'll keep adding to this.
1. If you got a pic that the color it's kinda drak, try add a new layer, than change it to [overlayer] than fill that layer with white color, see what happens
2. Same as the pic to bright, add dark to it.
3.Try to be creative, just draw something down,than fix it...you'll be surprised what you can come up wiht.

1.Try to make the texts look cooler, by making one bigger ,smaller, change the color, effects.
2.Try to use brushes, enlarge it, change the angels.
3.Don't have to be even, you can put one thing up, one down, it doesn't has to be even, just make it easy to read!

Also, use the filter more often, sometime you can get some effect no one knows how to make...!!
